I have a 2 year old @3/4 acre pond, never stocked, no wild fish that i have seen. I put 10 grass carp in it last summer. The fish and wildlife guy advised 1000 coppernose and 75 bass. They are bringing the coppernose this coming wednesday. These will be ok? I'm in Cullman(north), Alabama. I'm hoping to raise BIG Bass!!!! Also, should i use black bass or a combination of black bass and Florida bass? Also after a year or so when my bass get some size to them, would it be ok to add a few larger bass from another pond?? say 3 lbs or larger(possibly up to 8 lbs)? or should i wait for my bass to get larger? Thanks for any info in advance.

Read alot here to get some free pond education. WHat size are the coppernose? If intermediate size you can still stock the bass fingerlings this spring. If not stocking the bass too early can wipe out the bluegill b/f properly establishing. Numbers seem ok. A Florida bass is a black bass so not sure what you are referring to. If bluegill stocked right, shad added in addition, the pond fertilized and a supplemental feeding program in place you can grow the bass to over two pounds in about 15 months. I suggest stocking F1 bass for your area. So my answer to adding more bass would be no. When managed right the stocked fingerlings should grow rapidly. Just remember with 3/4 of an acre you can produce only so many pounds of big bass. Good luck!
