pond view
I will be posting on different threads but I finally have time to become more knowledgeable about our pond. I'll start with a fish question. I believe we have only LMB, in our pond. I have tiny ones about 1-2 inches long, the next size is about 5-6 inches, and the big ones are about 12-14 inches long. ( and some really big bullfrogs!)My question is should I have more than one type of fish or are they fine?

I'm not sure where this posted, sorry if it is in the wrong thread. This forum is just a little different from the other one I belong to.

The simple answer is "Yes", you need some other fish in the pond. LMB need something more to eat than their own offspring. If left by themselves, they will not have enough food to continue growing. This leads to having too many bass in the pond with too little food (forage) and they will likely stop growing. You would end up with a pond full of 10" bass. Here are two great threads that discuss managing ponds for LMB and BG... http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=255372#Post255372http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=189988#Post189988For better forum results, add some info about your pond. Like, size, depth, age, when the LMB where put in, and tells us what you would like you pond to develop into...Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out those threads. We bought the home last year, the pond was put in about the mid 90's. Title says 1/2 acre, depth of 13 feet. Beach (about 20 feet wide)at one end with shallower entrance. Fairly steep dropoff the rest of the perimeter. There isn't any aereation, we arelooking at a windmill or electric. We have power put to the pond but our co-op is expensive. I love the look of a windmill, we are comsidering having it mounted on the barn roof to ensure best wind availability. I have no idea when the fish were added so just winging it. I'm not fond of catfish, My preference would be bluegills or perch. Right now its just a catch and release if anyone fishes.
