This is at our "old folks home" we bought last year, the fireplace and house was built in 2006 and is OK, but it needs something. My bride has different ideas than me regarding just what it needs. We have discussed adding a mantle, a hearth and extending the hearth around the sides for benches. Can't decide on adding brick or stone. How likely is it that I can find matching brick 7 years later? The one item we have agreed on is this cast aluminum sun face as a center piece. Would like to hear any thought or suggestions you might have.

PS: I snapped this pic a couple of weeks ago as a storm was moving in. Never seen the end of a rainbow before and I didn't find a pot of gold either, so I sent her back to work the next morning.

Thanx,
2Old

A gigantic "decorative" grill. And a "decorative" smoker.

Whatever I did, I'd do it on the house side. I'd be hard pressed to coverup that view.

That is a monumental fireplace. Looks kind of stark by itself. Like FIH said, I would not cover up the view, but I would look into something like a bench or table made from bricks to help compliment the fireplace. I think you have a good idea about decorating the face with a sculpture too.

I think outdoor kitchen would go nicely with it if you like to cook.
