More and more they are becoming a problem as they are often forming local groups/gaggles that don't leave.

We have a resident population in this area that stays year around.

Sometimes a pair will light on one of my ponds, swim around for a few minutes, then fly away. They never stay long, don't know why.

Every year since building the pond we have a large gaggle that stops here for a month or so. They do that all the way around the pond. You go down they leave and as soon as you walk away, here they come again. Love watching them come and go, and hearing the wings as they go by, but could do without the poo!

There are thousands in this area that never leave. Their poo in the pond causes the FA to really thrive. I do everything I can to discourage them when they show up. The trick is to drive them away as soon as they arrive. If you wait an hour or so they think they own the place! I installed some flashing yellow lights a couple of months ago but the jury is still out on whether they are effective. The true test will be next spring when they come in to nest.
