3 sandpipers appeared this evening on my ponds edge. I'm not sure that's what they are and I could only get a decent look with my binocs. All 3 stayed pretty close together standing just in the waters edge and then got out of the water about 3-4 ft on the shore pecking for food I guess. They were dark backed and white breast. Do they eat lmb fry along the banks? Are they or should they be a threat? Kinda look like the birds you see running up and down the beach. Not sea gulls,I know what they are. Anyone else have these birds?

Dear Alcohol, We had a deal where you would make me funnier, smarter, and a better dancer... I saw the video... We need to talk.

Sounds like some I've had. Stand about 12 ". Long legs and necks. Must be migratory. Some kind of plover, maybe, or other shore bird. Stayed only a few days.

Ten or twelve years ago I had a whooping crane and a scissortail flycatcher that must have wandered off course. Never before or since and, certainly, no problems there.

Our developing problem is that Black bear preservationists have been active here in the last 30 years even though there is no such thing as the Louisiana Black Bear. Bears from northern states were brought down here in the 1930s, according to the literature. Now the bears are becoming much less fearful. Had one on my deck about a week ago. I suppose those black bear people won't be happy until one or two children are mauled. They'll likely consider that acceptable collateral damage; after all, it won't be one of their children getting killed.

The birds I saw here were black-necked stilts.

I have not seen any sand pipers yet but we do have some spend the summer at our pond. Mostly 3 or 4 of them. Not sure what they are eating or digging for on the shore but they work it all summer.
