Agree about the snakes having their place. Some of my neighbors consider me peculiar because I don't kill rattlesnakes or copperheads unless they are around the house or barn. My latest rattler kill was under my front steps and I didn't bother trying to relocate that big rascal.
However, I cannot conceive of letting an actual cotton mouth live in my pond. But they are pretty rare and a lot of harmless brown water snakes meet their demise when it is not necessary.
I've only seen one real coral snake. They are highly venomous but extremely rare.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Looks like that might be a cotton mouth (moccasin).
Snakes have their place...i'm just saying.
I've eaten my share of frog too...
Snakes may have there place, but I don't care for them at this point of the ponds life. I prefer the bullfrogs to get a good start. It is a banded water snake, not a moccasin, knew that when I took him out of the pond. I have several snakes around, I see them while bushhogging, and don't bother most of them. It amazed me how big the frog was he ate in proportion to his size.

Found this snake hanging around the pond. Had a nice lump in the middle, which turned out to be what was left of a big bullfrog
I'm happy to see that you treated the snake with appropriate respect! So many people don't know the proper, formal greeting for snakes, but you, sir, clearly are a cultured man!
