Last several days I have watched a school of hundreds of fry about 1/2 inch long. Finally netted a few up and I believe them to be lmb. My question is...If I have 1/2 inch fry right now then when did the female probably lay her eggs?? I hope they are lmb anyway. Might be my first hatch ever in my pond.I saw no signs of a spawn last year when the bass were 10-12 inch long.
Dear Alcohol, We had a deal where you would make me funnier, smarter, and a better dancer... I saw the video... We need to talk.
I've seen several balls of LMB fry swimming in our big pond. I'd say I have seen at least six different balls of them. They look healthy and hopefully the CNBG will thin their numbers.

The one thing is the one thing A dry fly catches no fish Try not to be THAT 10%
My lmb have been on the nest for the last two weeks from what I can tell. Yesterday I saw 4 males guarding nest. I believe the spawn is a latter date than a normal year here. I did see some really small fry couple weeks ago and thought they may have been lmb fry but they were really small and hard to tell what they were. This is the first year I have seen lmb on the nest at the pond. That's is because the water has always been to fertile with green water, but this year after applying the Alum Sulfate the water is clearer, most likely due to tying up the phosphates. The water really looks good with a nice green color and 18 to 21" visibility. The lmb seem to being doing good with them running from 3.5 to 7#'s. lots of cnbg in the right size for forage.

Just an observation, but the B.A.S.S. Elites were at Grand Lake OK this last weekend, and the LMB were moving to the beds daily. Flame, being farther south, I bet you and Pat are right about the fry. The only LMB I'm seeing are smaller males. My females are still scarce.
Wow Tracy that’s good, seems a little late for LMB but who knows. Walk around the bank and watch for schools of small fish that will make the surface shimmer as they move and skitter around . I think my pods have dispersed after about a week of running the shores. Have you been seeing any shad?
Brian I’ve only seen three pods of LMB but one had I guess close to 1000 fry in it.guess the BCP haven’t eaten them..... hmmm
Water temps and photo period. Photoperiod has been good for east TX for 2 mths - water temps ? If BG have spawned and LMB have not then something is going on.
My water temps are now in the 70's all the time. I have seem six beds with males on them east of the dock in nine foot water. (yes the water is that clear tine year with the flushing we had) I caught two of the males this pat weekend and pulled them. One was just over 100% RW and the other was 96%. After seeing the balls of fryLMB, I figured I have more than enough LMB fry for the season.

Seen plenty of LMB fry but no sign that anything else has.... yet Shame you can’t tell if the crappie have spawned or not till ya catch some a year later at 5 or so inches
Pat, as suggested, I walked the bank last weekend and came up on a male lmb guarding a nest in about two foot of water. When he saw me he swam up closer and was looking me eye to eye and he looked to be saying, come on in and I will bite your arse. Acted like he was a guard dog. Others I walked up on seemed to exit pretty fast and then return to the nest. And if you were asking me about seeing any shad, I lost all my TFS this winter. Been thinking I might try my hand at cast netting an area on Caddo Lake where I have seen many balls of shad on my fish finder while fishing the main river channel. I understand that TFS tend to run river channels. Buying TFS is not in my pond budget this year at the pond or I would contact Todd Overton to bring me some with the Tp that he is bringing May 14th.

Glad to see you are having such success this year, Tracy. Don't know about you, but I found the Optimal sacks let in some rain water and some spoilage occurred -- my wife & I have to pick out the bad bits when we pour it into the feeders.
Now that you are getting big bass, have you considered gizzard shad? My BOW maxes out around 4 lb LMB right now, so it is too soon for me, but sounds like you have LMB big enough to handle them.
Frank, Hind sight being 20/20, should not have transported the fish food during thunderstorms. I did have a few sks that had some wet clumps but like you, I just picket them out when adding to the TH feeder. And after losing my TFS I talked to Todd Overton about the Gizzards and he suggested I not use them. We also talked about adding GSH and Tp and decided to just go with the Tp.
Success this year, it sure feels that way right now. But, I have learned at my place I get a curve ball every once in awhile. Mother Nature can throw many different pitches at you.
