What is the best hook to not injure my 8 inch cnbg? Help keep them from swollering the hook? Will a "circle" hook work? I am a lmb fisherman but know little about my new cnbg.

I like to use a size 8 or 10, bare horizontal jig instead of a hook. Works great for me.
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

On the recommendation of George G., I started using circle hooks in my pond, especially for novice anglers, with good success to prevent swallowing. The problem I ran into is I could not find any smaller than size 6 which was too big most of the time for my BG. (A size 6 circle is a lot bigger diameter than a 6 straight hook.) I use a straight long shank Size 6 with the barb crimped down most times for my BG. I think crimping the barb down really helps.

Back in the day when those banjo minnows were all the rage, they were supplied with a small set of circle bait hooks. They are the best things I've ever used hook wise for BG & Crappie. Don't know the brand or size though.

A 1/64 ounce #10 hook chartreuse jig tipped with a "Berkley Gulp Alive" chartreuse wax worm is the very best bluegill catcher I have found, even better than a live worm. I have fished for them many years, and I just discovered this last spring. I found the jigs (#2197 Panfish Micro Jigs) at Lure Parts Online. I use them on a 12 foot Mr Crappie rod with light line on a micro spinning reel. I can sometimes catch 15 Bluegill in 15 minutes, with time saved from re-baiting with live bait.

Or if you have to fish with a bobber, use the smallest one that you can and still float. Better yet, use a pencil bobber and weight it right below the bobber so that it floats 50% to 75% submerged. Pay attention to it, if it moves up or down, set the hook. BG get hooked deeply usually because fishermen wait too long to set the hook.
