Pond Boss Forums FISH & FISHING Sunfish-Including Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass CNBG eating a 3/4 oz rattle trap!!

I understand the feeding habits of lmb and them being able to eat almost anything but...yesterday I was casting a big 3/4 ounce bleeding shiner rattle trap for lmb in my pond and was totally surprised to catch two 9 inch cnbg with the rear treble hook completely in the fish's mouth!! I then experimented and swam that bait near the surface so I could see what was going on and was blown away that even 5-6 inch cnbg were hitting that huge bait and trying to eat it!! Seriously, what makes a bluegill think they can eat a fish near their own size and especially knowing how small their mouth is?? Is this common? Are they trying to "kill" it? I have caught them when they swipe at a large top water chug bug floating bait but usually get hooked in the body. What is the "reasoning" behind a cnbg even attempting to eat a fish as big as they are?? I'm confused.

If CNBG grew to double digit like an lmb, we would not let our kids or dogs go swimming. They are just down right mean!
