I am investigating the possibility of starting a new aquaculture venture in the North-western region of Brazil, to farm tambaqui. One major stumbling stone at the moment is getting information on the cost of constructing the ponds in that region. Can anybody be of assistance in this regard? I am planning to initially construct 25ha of ponds of about 1ha each. I understand it depends largely on the topography, soil type and vegetation, however I just need an approximate monetary figure for running the initial analysis\planning.
Thank you very much!

There are just way too many variables in order to answer this question. If you are serious about this try and contact these guys http://www.hesy.com/en/home/ I should add that the price is high, but if you dont already have the land they can design a system that will produce the amount of fish you want in a small area. That depending on land costs, construction etc ,might be close in cost at the end.

Thank you very much! Nani, Welcome to Pond Boss. As said above, there are a lot of variables. If we assume this is cleared land, and each pond is approximately 1ha (about 2.5 US acres), and this pond is 4-5 foot deep and drainable -- figure on 3-5 days of labor. Probably 3 days each of bulldozer and trackhoe, and another day of rolling the land with some kind of compactor. In between, you will need to figure in the installation of pipes for overflow and draining. Probably needing three people for a day, plus the cost of 14-18 inch pipe. Then add at least 50% for a good estimate.
