I asked this question once before and got no response. Does anyone have experience in catching fish in there pond from a remote controlled boat? I have seen videos of it and it looks like a blast!! I thought I came up with the idea and thought it would be fun. Then I decided to google it and found there are people everywhere doing it. Was just hopeing someone on here had tried it. Maybe I'll start a fad on here??

More than likely Gar King has done it.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I think Gar King did do a video about it, but I'm not certain it was him.
The video I saw was just bluegills being caught.
I want to see a game fish go at it with a RC boat.

I want to see a game fish go at it with a RC boat. I used to chase down geese with my RC electric boat. Much quieter going electric than gas but less oomph. The quiet is good for sneaking up- geese start to move off but don't panic. When you get close and gun it, then pandemonium breaks out. Can go near silent, stop/wait, reverse easily. I never put a line on the boat but wouldn't try it on anything larger than BG. I have about 2 1/2" freeboard and about 20" long. Would take lotta pull to founder. But you could do nothing about it if a turtle hooked on.

Thanks guys, I hope others will chime in with any experiences. The boat I am looking at is 36 inch long and is electric. I have seen a video of a small bass caught. I also saw a video where something big struck at the boat itself as it was flying across the lake and turned the boat over. In slow-mo you could see a large fish hitting it. I did not think about a large turtle though I don't think I even have any turtles yet but could be a problem later.I just think it would be a whole lot of fun. Boats only cost about $100.I have never even owned a r.c. boat. Will be a new adventure!

I've never tried very hard to fish with them as I view it just as a gimmick in my case. However I have run several RC cars (yup Sunil, I meant boats) on my 3 acre pond. The biggest issue I have had with RCs is that if you have any moss on the pond you will likely get moss in the propeller which stops everything. In my case I needed to have my boat available to go get the RC when it ran in to issues.

Sunil: You Confused, NAH. I think the question is related to one of the RC boats being advertised as used to catch fish. You put a short line on the back of the boat and run it to where you want to fish. When the fish takes the bait and gets hooked you merely run the boat over to where you are and remove the fish and start over. If that wasn't what he was referring to then perhaps I have not recovered from the double Basil-Hayden you forced on me. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=rc+b...E70881A5E46B34BMy point was if there is any moss in your lake the RC boat propeller will pick it up and stop turning. That is why I always needed to have my "real" boat available to go retrieve the stranded RC boat.

I think Sunil is confused as to what 'moss' is.

Not only that, but it wasn't Basil-Hayden, it was Blantons.
Yup, I ran boats, not cars. Right now cars would work better.

Do they make little snowmobiles you can send off to a store down the road that can carry a 6 pack back?

Well, are three are good. No, make that great, but I thought it was Blanton's. We may need to go back and check that bar out.

I think a special trip may be warranted.

I know a little about using a rc boat for fishing. attaching a line and hook on the end of the boat is one way to use the boat for small fish only. The other way is attaching the line from your pole to take your line out then release your line. Some rc boats can go 300 feet so the advantage is that is further than you can cast. So, it is fun for pulling in small fish, but the line releaser is functional for big fish. A friend of mine attached a small Bluegill on a hook and sent it out a couple of hundred feet for Muskie fishing.

I forgot where you get the attachment on the boat.

the advantage is that is further than you can cast. Course you realize statements like this could be interpreted as a throw down challenge. Possible "hold my beer and watch this" incidents can follow....I'm thinking something along the line of a potato cannon powered by a M-80 should get er dun!

RC powered aught to work fine... I paddle a 10 ft boat around my pond and troll a crappie crank and catch crappie every time I do it... So a RC boat should work and not near as much exercise

I've seen people use them below dam at Lake of the Ozark's. You can't take your boat in a buffer zone below dam. They would use RC boat to take bait up to the good fishing. It would drop sinker and they would bring boat back. They was limiting out. Worked great.
