i have a 5-acre, 50+ year old pond that is 3 to 4 feet below the average water level. i don't have a standard over-flow pipe, so i know that i don't have a leaking pipe. there is a above average amount of water behind the dam which leads me to believe it is leaking.
i have been told that i need to treat the shoreline with bentonite, but don't know how or how much to dispense per linear foot. my pond is approximately 8' at dam.

I have the same problem on one of mine. It wasn't cored and I would also like to fix it without draining and possibly starting over. However, getting bentonite under water without it dispersing is something that I haven't figured out how to do.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Glad you found us. How long does it take for the water to go down after it is full? Is the water behind the dam running or just standing still?
I was over in east Texas last friday, It looked like the hole country could use some rain. Maybe the lake is low from evaporation. The book says four pounds per square foot.

i put bentonite along the dam (2'above and below waterline) three weeks ago and dam is up 2" with light rain.
However, i drove up to my pond (5-7 acres) 2 days ago and had 100+ water turkeys floating on the water feeding. Earlier in the week i had put 2,000 CN/RE in the pond. I have a very weak fish population due to the birds, poaching, or something else. Last year i put 40 tiger bass (2.1/lbs avg) and 50 F1 (3"-6") /per acre, supplemented by Tilapia. Had a electro survey done last October and resulted in not 1 bass greater than 8". Yesterday i fished for 45 minutes and didnt catch a fish.
i have a security camera which took a picture a pig, but i tired of feeding this money pit. I found my 1st dead fish (8" F1) yesterday that looked like the its head was mashed and i suspect its was a victim of bird feeding.
How do i get rid of these black water turkeys and the big white pelican looking bird?
Thanks!

If you get a $12 permit you can shoot the water turkeys but for the pelicans you will have to just scare them away.
