An elderly friend of mine asked I do some research and possibly help him sell about 20 vintage Heddon lures, primarily Heddon Zara Spooks. I am first of all trying to find out their age. They are likely from the late 1970s or 1980s, but I am not sure. Most are plastic, but some are wooden. They are in green coffin style boxes with plastic sleeves. He bought these new and never fished them, but did remove them from the boxes and displayed them on his wall for years. They still have the box and the instructions on how to fish a spook. Does anyone have know of a reference book or expert who can help me get some information, determine their date and likely value. If it is worthwhile I plan to sell them for him on eBay or through other means, I just don't know where to start. An example of the of the lure boxes reads, "9250 BF Zara Spook $1.75" all on a factory label.

Bing, if you are going to peddle them on e-bay, do a search for those specific lures there under completed auctions. See what they sold for, not listed with no bids.

esshup - Thanks, I always search completed auctions to get estimated value and looked at some yesterday. I don't think my friend is going to be very happy. He had a page from a Bassmaster magazine dated in the 1980s featuring a story about Charlie Campbell, former BASS tournament fisherman and Bass Pro Shops spokesman and the article discussed "old" spooks selling for $25.00. I think Junior's lures are about 20 years too new to be worth much. Years ago my BASS club brought Charlie to St. Louis to put on a fishing clinic. He had just won a tournament with a huge first price of $5,000.00. I picked him up at the airport and Charlie was sitting in the back seat of my station wagon and I looked in the rear view mirror and we was holding a small cedar box in his hands. We asked him what it was and he showed us the lure he won the tournament with. He called it his $5,000. Zara Spook. He carried it with him to shows for years

Hey Fred -- I sent you a PM and an Email with contact info for my brother. Talk to him before you put them up for sale. He knows a lot about selling items like that for premium prices.
