Not that cold here: 3 Deg F for the second morning in a row. Supposed to get to -7 or so tonight.

I got to plow snow for the first time this year last night. I had about an inch of it on me when I finished.

Wow. As Tom mentioned, we had lows in the mid 20s and highs in the low 60s yesterday.

Thanks for your weather guys! First time in 10 years we've been below zero. 10 years before that was the all-time low of -24.

Theo, when I drove through your state the weekend before Christmas it was zero with about 40+ mph winds! I had to stop at the Flying J in Spiceland and get a winter coat! Also had to get insulation to seal my truck tailgate. I had a 18,000 BTU heater in the back with a cap running full blast for the dog---He didn't like the frost that was still forming on his jowls!

When we spent the night in Cambridge at a motel we tried 8 rooms before an electronic door lock would let us in--The magnetic locks were frozen.

All that, and supermodels too.

Every single time we get a tech-rep up here from any one of several different subcontractors in Florida, we have an ice storm and they spend all day getting out of their motel rooms and into their rental car. \:\/

Then they get to drive on ice!

Really? Actual temp? In lllinois? We never got above 1 F. for a high today and now at 5:28 P.M. it's -5 F. My Japanese northern snow dog thinks it's awesome. She also loves to find the deepest snow and rush through it. She doesn't know when to come in. Fortunately she's on a lease and I know when enough is enough as the fur on her belly is not that thick.

How much snow do you have on your pond? I have about 6 inches on my ponds right now. I need to get out there and blow some off with the snow blower but I think I'll wait until temps go plus 0. I love the cold but I don't have anything to cover my face skin with.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Yeah, kinda freaked me out too. I can't remember ever actually seeing an ambiant temp that low. Remember, this is corn country in the outer 'burbs of Chi-town.

I have no idea. The pond property is in a distant galaxy and the roads have been too icy for warp-5. (we haven't been there for 3 weeks). Besides, my last adventure out onto ice that I thought was safe didn't go as planned.

Yeah I seem to remember now you don't live at your pond. No doubt your pond is making ice right now even with snow on top.

Practically Green Acres, eh, Bski?

Our furnace stopped igniting this morning. It started up again with no prompting mid-day as the repair guy was walking down the basement steps. Since it is so trustworthy, we have the woodburner AND the fireplace running tongith, for the expected -7 deg F low.

Since the weather is chili anyone using unusual heating systems?
I took out my wood stove last march and put in an automatic coal stove. It runs on rice coal which comes in 40lb bags and will hold 100lbs. When temps are cold I can still get 3 days before refilling the hopper. My wife loves it, very clean, no smell.
The 3 tons of coal should last the winter, and only cost $850.
I still have a wood stove at the cabin, but I have 50 acres of free wood there.

-13 now. Supposed to get to -18. I'm betting it will get a little colder than that by dawn.

I took the crazy dog out to do her thing and my nostrils were stinging on the way in.

Ah should be ice fishing over a lantern tonight!
