In case anyone is in the area and practices aquaponics or is interested, there is an Aquaponics Conference Saturday February 15th at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. The Indiana Aquaculture Association is putting this on. We we also tour an aquaponics greenhouse facility. Spring Annual Conference Indiana Aquaculture Association February 15th, 2014 Theme: Aquaponics Where: Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, Cooper Science Complex, Cooper Science Building Rm CP188 on the corner of Riverside and McKinley When: Saturday February 15, 2014. Registration 8 A.M. To 9 A.M. Conference from 9 A.M to 4:15 P.M. Cost: $30.00 for Indiana Aquaculture Association Members and $50.00 for non-members.
The theme is aquaponics with Indiana aquaponics farmer speakers, related fish farming topics, a business meeting and election, and tour of a commercial aquaponics greenhouse facility. At least one aquaponics vendor will be present.
You can register online at http://www.indianaaquaculture.com/ or contact rwibbeler@sbcglobal.net or jjbaird@ligtel.com letting us know you are coming and pay with a check at the door. Lunch is not included this time but there is a cafeteria in the building. If you have questions by phone you can call Cecil Baird at (260) 894-9055 or Rob Wibbler at (317) 417-0090.
For those that need to stay in the area overnight, the Ball State University Hotel has a limited number of accommodations at reasonable prices. The contact number is (765) 285-1555. Muncie is also a large college town with plenty of hotels and motels.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Looks like a really decent event!
The upcoming 2 day gig in Ohio would also be a cool event!

Cecil,
Looks like an excellent conference, I would be especially interested in the Brown's shrimp presentation. Too bad I'm heading to Kalifornia for work this week and won't be back until late Friday night.

Bryan The shrimp is the way to go in my opinion if you aren't particular on the species you want to raise and you want the quickest return on your investment. And they use the Intex pools indoors that are a lot more economical than other tanks. Another plus with the shrimp is zero discharge! And they sell them live bagged in ice at the facilities so don't have to deal with HAACP. The Browns will be talking about requirements for buildings and not specifically on shrimp culture although I'm sure it will come up. However there will be a conference specifically on shrimp in March in Indy if you're interested.
