The death toll is over 315 and climbing. Alabama is hardest hit with over 200 deaths and many missing. The videos are heart-breaking. God bless those affected by the storms and let it be known that help is on the way......

Amen! I watched in horror on the Weather Channel radar as the one tornado ripped into Tuskaloosa and then on to Birmingham. One mile wide and debris kicked up to 10,000 feet -- even debris seen on the radar. It's a weird feeling when you know people are dying as you watch. Unbelievable!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

We lucked out, I could see a funnel cloud off our back deck. It ended up striking a bunch of houses about 2 miles west and north of us. Virginia didn't get it nearly as bad as Alabama and Mississippi did though...

Virginia didn't get it nearly as bad as Alabama and Mississippi did though... My concern is as things finally warm up in my region the instability will move north. The problem is all those unseasonably cold air masses that keep streaming south colliding with the warm air masses. Yesterday we had a high of 43 here!

North and south of us. One went near the lakes but no reported damage. One storm was on the ground for like 350 miles - central MS to Tn/Ga/Car border. Tusc and Bir AL happended to be in the path. One samll town in MS (Smithville)is gone. That one is thought to be an F-5 a half mile wide through Tucs AL.

My heart goes out to those people. That's why I liked living in Ca. No tornado's and no matter what they say about the earthquakes, you can live thru a whole lot of them, but even a teeny, tiny tornado does a LOT of damage. I've been thru one tornado and that one was enough (the F3 in Starke County, Indiana). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1965_Palm_Sunday_tornado_outbreak

You know what I can't figure out? In one of the videos I saw where the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham tornado was clearing visible there were cars driving right toward it on an overpass! Are people really that dumb? Same goes with the double tornado in Esshup's link. There is a clear picture of them barreling east on a highway and the cars are driving right at them! What's with these people?

Thoughts and prayers from the left coast to our midwestern and southern brethren that are effected by this tragic series of events.

+1 Also.
I have not seen much news coverage because of my schedule the past two weeks, but the couple minutes I did see was unreal.
A very heavy burden for many people.

One of my Tilapia contract growers is also in the search and rescue squad near Demopolis, AL. He was more than a little torn up after personally finding perts of six of his friends and neighbors the next day in the forested areas that were nearly impenetrable to search. There were 32 more still missing when I last spoke with him. I plan to load fish there next weekend bu will delay the run and help in any way I can if needed...Business is the last priority for me here...Truly heart-wrenching sites!
One story that he gained solace from was a single mother on the bed with her three small children in their mobile home. The mother was killed and found near the trailer, but the mattress and three children were deposited in front of a Post Office 3 miles away, completely unharmed.
Just one of the miracles midst all the tragedy that make the damages my truck sustained absolutely meaningless!
