I have a 2.25 to 2.5 acre pond i have hopes of turning into a bait pond, my hopes are to stock golden shiners in.
Last summer the pond completely dried up due to the severe drought we had and killed off everything that was in it, (a lot of bullheads and carp) The pond is now rim full again and is basically fish free.
My only worries are that it is to shallow and I may see winter kill offs, The pond is 5ft at it deepest but most of the pond is 2.5ft-3.5ft deep. Most of the pond can be waded across.
Any tips or pointers would be great.

How much risk are you willing to take? Is 5 ft deep ideal? No... I would say, with a lighter load of fish, there is a good change the GSH will make it through the winter. There is also a good chance they won't.

Use a 100 ft seine to harvest shiners at the end of summer or fall. Fertilizing the pond will increase production. If you dewater and lower the pond by 2-2.5 ft it will make seining easier.
