Okay, maybe not night exactly, but near dark.
I'm thinking that herons dislike landing in the water, probably because they can't see the bottom very clearly. They prefer to land on shoreline and walk around the edge in shallow water.
So what if feeding times were set when there was very little light? Would fish be able to see the food better than the herons could see them, thus reducing predation?
Anybody ever try this strategy want to share their experiences?

FWIW GBH hunt my pond day and night. I think they have pretty good night vision.

GBH only fish in very shallow water so unless your feeder is throwing in ankle deep water I wouldn't think they would be an issue. My TH feeder throws out to about 10' of water and is eaten in less than 15 seconds

Me too Pat. A bird would have to be pretty quick to get any kind of pellet. But, I do have a heron "fishing' at my place.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
