Ok, I see posts from a lot of folks where they stocked 100s or 1000s of small fish like 1 to 2 inch BG. My question is probably a dumb one but so be it. Do fish farms actually count these fish or do they go by weight or go by...? If I was stocking a "1000" little fish, I would sure not try to count them as they go in!

By wieght. A net full, count them, then get the average.

It depends on the type of fish and quantity.

Here with minnows, they are sold by the pound. They are weighed out pond side.

With fish, they are either counted out/weighed out at pond side, or brought to the pond in their own holding tank or tanks for that particular order. Typically on larger orders, a smaller quantity is weighed and counted, then they are moved by weight. To provide assurance that the correct number of fish are delivered, typically the better fish haulers will supply 5% - 10% more fish than ordered. That makes up for any weight discrepancy or for a few morts (if there are any). It's more cost effective to supply more fish than ordered than to have to make a return trip to replace a few morts.
