I just emptied 4-1/2 inches of water out of my rain gauge. I didn't realize how much rain we'd gotten in the last few days, as the indicator was stuck.

I've been out on the tractor for about the last hour. Thankfully I hadn't taken the backhoe off. My culverts were stuffed full of summer debris. I cleaned out the culverts and I cleaned out my settling ponds too.

They say we could get another 6-8 inches of rain by Sunday night.

I haven't had time to get my RES/FHM grow-out pond seined yet. Thankfully, the RES were planned for the pond it flows into. I expect most of them will be swimming in that pond by morning, as water was starting to go over the emergency spillway. The FHMs will at least provide some forage, but I sure will miss having them as bait for the next several weeks.

The last time we had rains like this I was picking trout and HBG out of the bushes.

Very nice on the rainfall...we got +2 1/4" since this past Sunday at the farm. Not sure if it'll raise the level in the pond though...the ground was very dry and cracked in areas. It's the first good bit of rain since we had this past spring. We were down over a foot...hopefully, the water level will come back up some.

It was coming down pretty good here today. 1st time I hydroplaned in years.

October is usually one of our wettest months, so hoping the ground gets soggy enough to push over some larger trees and get the roots. Been quite dry and not making huge progress. Darn Pine trees have been snapping off. If it get's really wet, I'll make some progress.

Bill,

I have a Chinese 2" semi-trash pump and several sprinklers on tripods that I got from Lowes. Each sprinkler can cover a circle a little more than about 60 feet in diameter. The pump pulls water from one ofmy ponds. That is how I water my garden and one of my wildlife plots. Together they are a little over an acre.

Ken

I hope it stays dry here until I get my concrete poured for a housing addition. It will be interesting as it is to get the concrete mixer trucks up the slope.

Ask Scott how bad he got stuck in the yard once with a suburban!

It takes a lot to soak the clay soil but once it's soaked it's really mushy!

Cecil, is the addition going onto the South Side of the house?

Not a drop of rain here today.

Ken, is that tropical storm headed your way this weekend?

Driest Sept that I can remember. Like Pat I might have received 1/8th of an inch of rain since June 1, I really think it has been less than that. Crazy weather here. It started raining @ the PBC and did not stop till the last days of May, and since then, not a drop. Some of the food plots are irrigated using the pond water but anything away from the pond is like dust. We need some rain. I always knew farming was a lot of work, just did not really understand how the timing of weather had such an effect on farming. I knew it but just did not fully understand until this yr.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I had 4" of rain about 2 weeks ago, ground was so dry that a LOT of it ran off. I have a couple of stock tanks sunk into the ground to act as ornamental ponds, and evaporation has been 1" per week.

Ground is back to being a dust bowl - driving on gravel roads raises a huge cloud. Grass is turning blue/brown here and would have turned a long time ago if it wasn't for the morning dew and low sun angle.

Wish it was for passive solar but septic tank, garden, deck, etc., etc. don't make that possible. It will be on the north side between the back of the house and the trout pond. Lean to roof and 18 by 24 dimension.

There will be door between the main bathroom and this room.

One of these will go in:

I thought that the trout pond was on the East side of the house..... The curve in 33 throws me direction wise. I KNOW I'm going South out of Ligonier.....

Rained nearly all day here yesterday. Ground sucked it up, no runoff. It's been a good year, no drought and the grass grew all summer.

Yeah that curve throws everyone off. Really deceptive curve. Trout pond is definitely on the north side.

We got 2 inches here in deep east Texas. May be a coincidence but if I get 2 inch rain the pond comes up about 2 inch. 4 inch rain brings it up about 4 inches and so on...I have a 2 acre pond and I am measuring that on a pvc pipe calibrated in the deepest part of the pond by the dam.

Yup. That is Thursday night's thru Sunday's rain.

I'm not sure where all this most recent rain came from. There was some video on TV this morning of pumpkins from a pumpkin patch in Virginia bobbing down a river.

In our well publicized floods, I got 71.5 inches. But when it finally quit I haven't had any since. Pond has gone down about 4.5 ft.

Almost 4" of rain in the last 24 hours here in West Virginia. This is the first time my pond has run over since spring.

Toodm, I drove thru your state the other day on my way to Williamsport Pa. for the Little League World Series. Those mountains are beautiful but tough for me to drive. We hit 3,000 ft and the pressure on me was crazy. I almost had to pull over...I was feeling ill. Took a different route home.

Dry as a bone at my pond, too. But we have enough pond water to irrigate grass seed on dam last five days, so it is sprouting. Thank God the feeder springs continue to flow despite dry fall weather!

Look forward to finally stocking FHM, RES, and CNBG soon. Hopefully we'll get a spawn in late October so have different size forage fish for the LMB next year. Also intend to either catch or order some grass shrimp & papershell crawfish...

Well...we got hammered with the rain yesterday. We showed up at the farm on Friday evening after a visit to Oakwood to see Pat W. & his wife. The pond was ~1 1/2' low. I set an empty 5 gal bucket on the deck that night before retiring. We caught some serious showers that night and early morning. The next morning at daylight, there was 5" of rain water in the bucket. I walked down to the pond to view the situation and the pond was up to "full pool" back to it's original level. The watershed was still draining when we left, and we got several more showers yesterday after lunch as well. I hope the siphon kicked in and did it's job. It's great to be back at full pool. It hadn't been at that level since it quit raining last June. The water was pretty cloudy, but I expect no less. The pond hasn't cleared up totally since building it the summer of 14'...by the weather radar, it looks like we're getting some more rain today.

esshup,
Thanks.....yeah, that's the plan. Pat W. and I were talking about that yesterday. Now I have to wait until it dries up enough to get a truck back there...seems like timing is everything...
