Or rather why are there so many?
I've been removing fish with a a Fyke net in an .8 acre pond since Monday morning. I'm checking the net every 24 hr. The first check, there were 4 snapping turtles in the net, each roughly 20#. How they were able to fit thru the 6" throat sections, I have no idea. They were 11"-12" wide and 14"-16" long. On each subsequent day I have caught one more, although a bit smaller, one @ 10# and another at 15#.
I removed the turtles from the pond, so I'm not catching the same ones. Why are there so many in the pond, and how many is too many?

Are there any other bodies of water around? In the Spring the females will travel to lay their eggs, so the population may vary. This late in the year, I would say that the ones you are catching are intending to overwinter in that pond, and they're putting on the feedbag before going dormant.
The pickens' must be pretty good there, or else they have no where else to go. They can be pretty stealthy, I'll bet for everyone that I see in my ponds that there are 2 more I don't.
What did you do with the ones you caught?

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

There's a stream that is 1/2 mile away, but this pond is uphill from it.
The pond has been there for a LONG time, nobody knows just how old it is.
I gave them away. 4 to the landscaper, 2 to a neighbor.

I don't know how many is too many. I recently saw about sliders 15 in my pond. They migrate around so control, if desired, is a good trick.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Esshup, that's a million dollar question! I personally think that one is too many. So I will blather here. Unless you like snappers, like looking at snappers, or wish to provide them sanctuary........recycle them!

They've been recycled. Next year I'll do some sampling in the pond with a trot line and wire leaders...... Chicken gizzards/cut Goldfish/Liver for bait. Bullheads/Snappers and CC are the targets

I LIKE IT!! esshup, I dont know what your water temps are like, but I saw and "recycled" my last snapper about a week ago. We had temps low enough for a good frost . The darn things were still moving, and make an easier target.
