Last Saturday, 5/9, my bride and I fished a 20 acre pond in East Texas. A rain storm pushed us off the lake mid afternoon, and we started fishing again around 6pm. Around 7ish, we anchored around a sand bar with a deep channel that had flowing water. From 7:30-till dark, we caught bass on almost every cast. The amazing part (for me) was the bass were only hitting soft plastics. I threw 3-4 topwater casts, but never got a strike and went back to throwing worms.

I've experienced a few instances where the topwater bite came alive, but nothing like this using plastics. Anyone have any similar experiences? The only limiting factor was how fast I could unhook my wife's fish and return to my casting. I would guess we caught well over a hundred fish in that time frame.

The bass were all under 2 pounds. The pond itself is in dire need of serious management from vegegation control to culling, but that's another issue. One example is the land owner had a small pond full of bluegill and catfish that he to decided to drain because he wasn't able to catch enough catfish. He said he got rid of all the bluegill because he didn't want to overload the competition for bass in the big pond.

Just a great day of fishing, although my Senko stash is wiped out.

Sounds like you 2 had a ball. I also have to unhook my Wifes fish. That's a pain because she usually outfishes me.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

At the one pond I normally fish I have most of my success on plastics vs. top water baits. Were the bass hitting on the drop? I ask that because a lot of the time plastics will get hit by bass on the initial drop thru the water column. If you are getting strikes like this then it is a reaction strike, a type of strike less proficient while throwing top water.

George and DD, when fishing with my wife (who always outfishes me) a flyrod in a small boat while trying to unhook her fish, dealing with the trolling motor, etc is a recipe for disaster. My fly line becomes a tangled mess, I have an much easier time flyfishing with my boys.

RBB, the fish were hitting it on the drop. I have never seen a sustained and agressive bite like that for worms.

Yessir, maintenance and upkeep can be pretty pricey.
