I'm sorry Mr. Horstman. You followed all the rules however we are going to have to deny your fish for a state record status due to "unwritten guidelines" and the fact that your fish are on a "feeding program." Whoops! Oh wait this was Missouri not Indiana. Sorry couldn't resist. :p :p :p Nice fish. Congratulations John. I wonder how long it will live though. Crappies stress really easy. I hope they are medicating the fish or something.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

If I caught a crappie like that you'd have to medicate ME.

Is that a crappie? I thought it was a hybrid greensunfish. Doesn't pay to be color blind. Tell me that's a 5 lb hybird greensunfish, not a crappie?
For real?
Nice catch!

For real? Absolutely a Black Crappie! No doubt about it. I've mounted 18 inch crappie but never 19 inches.

On a fishing website I frequent I posted this too. Of course a few of the guys are saying there is no way it's five pounds. Come again? Certified scales don't lie and to insinuate the Fish and Game commission would fabricate this? Strange phenomenon I noticed: New state records whether they are fish or deer are always doubted by some or there's a "It was poached" story or it came from "out-of-state." Anyone ever notice this?

Anyone ever notice this? I'm pretty sure that's a hybrid greensunfish. Maybe that is what the problem is.

I'm sure Cecil knows; it just doesn't look 5# nor 19 inches. More like 17 and 4#. I would like to see a few more pics.

Notice it's almost the width of his shoulders. Also notice his thumb and finger can't even get close to going around the peduncle. Pictures are deceiving.

Anyone ever notice this? It's just jealousy and envy. Both can make you say and do some strange things. PS: That was my fish! MY FISH! Do you hear? Nobody else has a right to it!

I say its only 18.75" No good cheats Seriously, I have no problem believing that is a 19" fish. I would be happy to have LMB that size. Beautiful fish. Quote: "He donated his lunker still-swimming, to Bass Pro Shops....." Are you serious? Donated!?! What a guy. Can you imagine marketing the spawn of the world record crappie?

Did anyone catch the fact that almost all of the state record crappie came from farm ponds. Does anyone have an explanation for this? The largest crappie that I have ever caught are out of my pond. I know that crappie are not supposed to be stocked in farm ponds but my pond already had crappie in it when I bought the property. I tried to remove most of them because of what has been said on the forum but a few are still there.
