The image above shows approx full pool at red line and current pool at the green line. The image was taken early last winter and the water level is about green line level now. I would like to place some plants for help the forage species in this nursery cove. I was thinking a reed like species and possibly some type of surface covering species. The water will be at least 6 feet deep and the banks drop off quickly. One of the two water inlets to the pond can be seen at the end with ice-filled pipe. The other cove on the pond is very similarly configured with dense brush pile and steep banks. What would you recommend?

Hey Roundy, Kinda surprised you have not gotten any responses, so I'll throw in my 2 cents. I am not so familiar with aquatic plants that I could give you a list of ones to try, but I can say that I have found that more success in establishing a plant in your waters starts by visiting BOWs in your area, identifying the ones you like, and transplanting (where permitted), or ordering from the closest nursery you can find. Do no believe the nursery websites when they say a plant is good for your area...your best advice comes from your local branch of Mother Nature.

Thanks for responding. I'm thinking of eelgrass and American Pondweed. I've seen the pondweed around here and reed-like grasses also. My only concern with APW is keeping contained and not taking over all around the edge of the pond. On a positive note the pond should fill up this week and I'll see if my overflow works and possibly see if siphon activates. The siphon scares me a tad. I have a long drop down the back of the dam and quite a bit of height differential between intake and outlet. Could be a real show.

Eel grass will spread just as fast and deeper than American pondweed.
