will all this moss in my pond go away after the first freeze? Never had it this bad before

It's probably filamentous algae. When the water cools, the floating mats will disappear. The algae will retreat to the bottom of the pond, in a layer a few inches thick where sunlight reaches the bottom, but does not usually disappear altogether in winter; at least it has not here.

I can think of four ways to manage FA. First three are recurring expenses.

1) Stock appropriate numbers of tilapia. Typically, they die when the water cools in the fall and will need to be restocked each spring. If you have LMB, the tilapia will provide nice supplemental forage.

2) Treat early with Cutrine plus and retreat every 3 or 4 weeks.

3) Use pond dye early, before the FA gets a head start, and retreat once a month or so. This can impact your plankton and success of new spawn.

4) Plant desirable vegetation that will use the nutrients currently being used by the FA.
