Gotta go to Iowa on business tomorrow. Will be in Pella, which is SE of Des Moines tomorrow evening, then an appointment near Sioux City at 5pm on Wednesday. That's about a 4 hour drive, so I have some time to waste. Is there any public lakes between the two to fish for awhile midday, from the shore that we might stand a chance of catching something?

I know a couple guys who fish that area. I'll inquire and get back.

SW of Des Moines there is 12 Mile and 3 Mile lakes near Creston Iowa, I haven't fished either in years. Other eastern Iowa lakes I haven't fished in a while are Anita and Viking. The price for an out of state IA fishing license keeps me from going back.
There is also Snyders Bend south of Sioux City which is a Missouri River oxbow lake, a Nebraska fishing license will suffice there as part of the lake is in Nebraska. Just a warning, it is a very shallow lake.
South of Snyders Bend there is another oxbow lake called Blue Lake, if it still has curly leaf pondweed in it should have died back by now. It used to be loaded with a lot of 12-14" LMB. One of the things I haven't heard much about is what last year's flooding of the Missouri did with the fish in the oxbow lakes, you might want to get more information about them before heading out.
Just a disclaimer, I haven't fished any of these lakes from the bank so I don't know how you might do from the shore.

Ok, being told that Big Creek has easy shoreline access. Mentioned that he hasn't tried fishing it in the middle of summer before though.

A friend sent me this on Big Creek. At the very least, it looks like you should be able to catch something.

Where did you end up, Richard, and how did you do? Talked to a guy yesterday about Viking and Anita and he gave me some primo spots to fish on those lakes, but obviously after the fact.

We went to a German restaurant at Amana and afterward felt too full and lazy to fish.

Kind of an anticlimactic ending to this story Richard.
