Can anyone tell me if they have ever caught Crappie in a Pond under lights. I'll be fishing a 15 ac. watershed this weekend and have no idea where any brush might be. I know it has alot of Big Crappie in it. I've done it alot on lakes but never on a pond. We'll be fishing out of a Canoe, no depthfinder. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If it were me, I would definitely look for visual structure, and if that didnt pan out I would head for open water during the summer on a 15 acre pond and have one rod with a jig down 12 feet over the boat and one rod with a cork and a minnow down 6 feet and I would drift quietly around the open water until I found a pattern on a school of the big resident crappies! They are often suspended in no mans lands and often difficult to find during the summer on a pond. Put your time in and you will have a pattern develop.

Next step would be to cast or troll small cranckbaits through no mans land as well. Then I would definitely hit any sort of light at night time. Free lining a minnow on the edge of the light is what I would use, but George would most likely use some sort of slow sinking fly. I have had my best crappie trips during the summer at night under the lights.
