this winter i will be keeping some perch in a small pool with a diameter of 8' and a depth of 33". i will have this pool in the barn. i live in north texas, but i still would like to have high water tempatures to keep the bluegill active. does anyone know of a way to keep the water warm.

There are special submersible heaters available complete with thermostats. One place to look would be Aquatic Ecosystems. They should have a link here.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

What is your ground (well) water temperature, and how does that compare with your desired pool temperature? IIRC it might be in the low 60's.

Theo's right. In TX your ground water should be at least in the upper 60's depending on what part of the state you are in. If you're not sure, typically your ground water is about the same as your average annual temperature. Mine is 53 and my ground water is 51.6.

If you got a heater with a thermostat it may not take much to warm your water up a few degrees.

LL, 1500 watt bucket heaters from tractor supply, I've used one in my hot tub for 3 years. no fish in the hot tub, but a mouse seemed to like it.
