I thought you bird watchers might enjoy these. These little critters are under the eve of our porch. This is about the 4th or 5th year they nested here. We currently have 2 nest.

We had a new pet this weekend. My wife woke me from my saturday afternoon nap to inform me we had a snake in the house. 41/2 foot long rat snake was in our bathroom, same kind that bit me on my back porch one night last year. Wife said I couldn't keep him I had to get rid of him.

RT,
We have the same birds that have built a nest(mud and grass) on top of a porch light that is under an eave at the guest house. The porch light has a flood bulb and would probably get warm when there is movement for about 5 minutes at a time. I guess it provides warmth when Mom wants to go out for a quick bite, huh?

Love your porch neighbors, but not so sure they would be very comfortable with the the big snake in your bathroom (did I just say that out loud?)
Herpetology studies have identified the Bloated Blue footed Boobie as a natural predator of the rat snake. We have found excellent results in protecting our Purple Martins by placing the inflatable BBFB in our water garden that is directly adjacent to the nesting site. You may want to consider one for your front porch.

The navel area is ideal for smaller birds to bathe.

Somebody tow that thing out to sea before it gets beached.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

That thing would have to be camoflouged. Would it still be effective if painted purple?
