My family went down to north Padre this weekend and I thought I'd share some pics of some great times. It stormed off and on but we had a blast. We go out with the same guide every time we go but this time we had to work hard for our fish. Inbetween storms we had to hide under the overhangs of the fishing camps in the middle of the bay. We were fishing at the mouth of Baffin Bay with 4 inch live croaker and no weight, just a hook and shock leader. We caught several throwbacks and 8 keepers each day(speckled trout). Our guide got a new racing style bayboat that was by far the fastest bayboat I have ever seen. We cruised at 65 thru the intercoastal and passed other boats like they were standing still. Notice the forked cat front, air scoops on the Mercury alien 300 and lowwww cockpit and passenger profile. He said he could do 90 low on fuel and by himself. It also had a grasshopper style power pole that was a anchor pole for water to 6' deep. Very cool for running from storms and quick starts and stops. When the surf was churned up and full of seaweed we caught several whiting as my girl nicely displays, but the nice day when the water was clear as a bell there wasn't a bite in the surf. Dang I love it down there.

Keith, it's nice to see families that get together on Memorial day. I'm glad y'all had a great time.

When I was a youngster, I got my clothes and shoes stolen on Padre Island. It was tough hitch hiking back into Corpus in my bathing suit, all covered in welts from man-o-war stings.

I am lucky to have such a great family. My sisters flight from Chicago was cancelled so she didn't make it but all of us Texans drove thru the storms. My parent want to split their time between their land in N Texas and N Padre Island and we may get a little place down there on the canals. Yup, that's me with the net. Been working on that since I was about 8 but the old shoulders aren't what they used to be thanks to my grappling and stuff. I have about 10 good tosses in me.

Keith, thanks for sharing your vacation story and pictures.
Padre Island and Laguna Madre are one of my most favorite places – my little slice of heaven.

Earlier in the month we spent a few days at South/South Padre Island where my son has an ocean front vacation beach home

At one time I had a surface/sub-surface detailed knowledge of every foot of Padre Island as well as Baffin Bay.

A word of caution – a fishing guide that run Baffin Bay from Corpus, or from Riviera Beach, to Baffin Bay at 65 mph is on a suicide mission.
You are dodging mudflats and spoil banks from Corpus Christi, and reefs at Point of Rocks at the mouth of Baffin Bay. \:\(

I’ve made four trips to Padre the last 12 months – I love it... \:\)
