That photo reminds me of fishing several years ago in the Sea of Cortez. One of the fellow anglers on my boat hooked up a decent sized tuna and as per usual the fish fought him for quite a while. He finally got it near the boat when a shark came out of nowhere and bit the tuna in two. He ended up landing just the head of the tuna.
That same trip we saw many sharks in the water. I believe they were mako sharks but it has been so many years I am not sure.

Theo Gallus - Northern Pike - Slime Darts - Tackle Grinders. Jeffhasapond - Sorry Charlie! I also had an experience while fishing Crappie up in Northern Minnesota. I had a nice big Crappie on, just ready to hoist him into the boat, when a huge NP came and grabbed the Crappie. My ultra-light reel sang like a banshee for about a second and then the crappie was gone. A few minutes earlier when the Crappie bite had slowed somewhat my Dad made the comment, “there must be a Northern around”!

Me and my wife were fishing in a pond for CC and BC.
She caught a nice little 5-6 pound BC, and we strung it up. After a while, there was a huge commotion at the stringer. We didn't think anything of it. One of us caught another catfish, and went to string it up. Well, the 5-6 pound blue was almost bitten in half! Something had a pretty big mouth!

Damn, Bremer Pond. Is that an early courtship ritual? Soo, which is badder, NP or Muskie? Who would win "inside the octagon"?

No skinny dipping in Bremer Pond.

bobad - I don’t know much about toothy predators in Louisiana waters, an alligator maybe?
burgermeister – Supposedly the Musky is more intelligent than the NP. “inside the octagon", I might have to bet on the NP for its single minded aggressiveness.
An NP in a mood will hit a lure over and over again until it is caught or has destroyed your tackle and pulled you into the lake(?). A Musky will back off if it senses a negative situation and look for other options.

The small tooth marks looked to be catfish. The owner said there were no gators or garfish in the pond. We agreed it was most likely a very large, cannibalistic blue cat.

I may have to make that picture into the background on my PC for a while. But then I'd just stare at it all day.
It evokes emotions of sadness and joy, life and brutality, harsh realism and wonder, all at the same time.
The old phrase "out of the frying pan and into the fire" really hit's the mark.

As a taxidermist I have found up to 20 inch pike in the bellies of other larger pike.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I think we need a bigger boat ! Awesome photo ! Just imagine what people would think if you were tossing a lure the size of the fish being eaten ! hahahahaha...better yet, go into Bass Pro Shop and ask for one that size with size 10 hooks

dwight thanks cool photo. Being a southern boy have not had the chance to fish for northerns except ones in Alaska. Amazing how agressive they are. My best lure was when crusing around I found a dead pike. he had a black buzzbait in his mouth. I took it out and had hits almost the entire remainder of the day on that lure. Wife was with me and had a blast as well as filming some awesome explosive hits on top. Enjoy those fish I'm jealous.

I want to know how you had the camera SO readily available!!! No telling how many great (though some sad) shots are missed by not being prepared like that. When I ocean fished (Pacific), I caught 'countless' HUGE Ling Cod, which we called "Hitch-Hikers" that had chomped into smaller cod(s) called a Red Snapper or China Cod. No camera ready, but we always had the gaff ready. Simply gaff and land the Ling before his head broke out of the water. A "2 fer 1" sale! Very common out there on the big pond.

very cool fish, would love a chance to fish for them, never have.
and to think the CA Dept. of Fish and Game is spending MILLIONS to eradicate them in Lake Davis up north....they dont want them infiltrating the salmon and steelhead fisheries downstream.
GSF are people too!

Bruce Condello did mine under the cover of darkness since he has no license to do lens implants.

Dwight what is the max focus and resolution on that Condello version. I am thinking that with some fins and goggles that will work better than my aqua-view and will go where I tell it to.

Ahhh!!! The Infamous Dr. Bruce is it??? Well, the only draw back I hear is that his patients see "triple" when they drink too much, but then that's just a rumor...
