The subject of HSB mortality in hot weather months has been discussed on the PB forum several times, and has been concluded that that they will fight to their death. I agree unless positive steps are taken, such as landing quickly, with little handling, and returning to the water as soon as possible. I have posted on experimenting with the use of oxygen in a live well, and yesterday experienced positive results. Three belly-up HSB between 12 and 16 inches were successfully resuscitated. No floaters observed. Air temperature was 98 degrees and near surface water temp was 86.3 degrees. http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=000151 http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000330 George Glazener N.E.
