We work hard for our ponds to be successful, so tell us just how is your fishing. I went Thursday and caught 10 bass off of the bank in the east section of our lake that is not drained. 5 of the bass were very small (under 1 pound), the other 5 were between 2 and 3 pounds, but looked kinda skinny. Caught most of them on a crankbait, then about 30 minutes before sunset I caught the rest on topwater lures. Don't forget to take the time to enjoy your establishments.

OK, just waiting for someone to ask *G*
Seems like this site is for problem solving – the information IS priceless!
Fished “Our Pond” Friday late, early and late Saturday, and early this morning.
Really a blast – three generations on the pond with everything from cane poles to fly rods, and everything in between. Stink bait, spinner baits, plugs, plastics and hand tied flies!
My 11 yr old grand son accompanied me on his first trip on the pond in a float tube, and now wants me to teach him to cast a fly!
“Our Pond”, one year old, well stocked with fingerling and mature channel catfish, blue gill, and large mouth bass, yielded all species to the skills of the anglers. Only the catfish were ‘harvested.
Thanks for asking, george

Fish mine almost everyday. None are big enough to keep yet, especially the bass. I remove the barbs from the hooks and lures I use. Many Bluegills and hybrids are getting close to meeting the frying pan. My Dad was up this weekend and wanted me to let him keep a couple of 12" channels but told him 14" is my minimum. Take my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter with her Scooby Do pole everytime she is here. She loves it and will be a good fisherperson. We're having fun with it.

Having a "sort of" problem fishing mine. About 1.5 acres; big deep bowl with with a 150 ft. long flooded brushy draw leading to it. All the fish stay around the brushy part. Bass seldom bite. I assume because of the huge numbers of fatheads and small bluegill, they are seldom hungry. So, we enjoy perch jerking. However, the catfish have gotten to the 2 to 3 lb. range in about a year and a half. Anytime a perch rig hits the water, the catfish move in and the bluegill move out. If a body of water won't support over 50 to 75 lbs. of predators per acre as stated in Raising Trophy Bass, I have the start of a problem. There should be about 75 to 100 catfish left. I know this sounds like a pretty good problem and I've had worse problems. I'm trying to clean out the catfish but they are getting pretty cautious.

I fish my 2 acre pond every weekend. Mostly worm fishing. Bass are only 2 years old. Most I catch are in the 1 pound range, healthy looking, 12 inch long. Some 2 pounders. A few weeks ago, I caught a 3.5 pounder, in 10" of water, right in some cattails near my fish feeder. Scared the bajeezers out of me when it hit the worm. It was twice the size of anything caught prior to that. Evidently, he just lives by the feeder and gets fat on feed and unsuspecting bluegill. I also love catching Bluegill on my 3 wt fly rod with popping bugs or nymphs.
The dog days of July have slowed things down somewhat, but I can still go out in the evening and catch 8-10 bass. Even the bluegill have slowed somewhat. Fishing mostly unweighted finesse worms (junebug and pumpkin seed colored), in shallow water - so peaceful. I have some weeds in the flats and they seem to hang out there a lot, especially late in the day. When they hit that worm in 10" of water - man-0-man, nothing like it. I, too, de-barb my hooks. Nothing upsets me more than to gut-hook one and watch it bleed to death. De-barbing the hook really helps get them out of the gut. I miss more fish, but I've discovered it's not about the fish, it's about the time near the water. Chinese proverb: If you want to be joyous for an hour, get drunk. If you want to be joyous for 3 days, get married. If you want to be joyous for a lifetime, learn to fish.
Tight lines, guys. Dave Keyes Birmingham, Alabama

Hey Dave, great post......want some real fun.....put on a buzz bait about 30 minutes before sunsets and toss it somewhere around where shallow water meets deep water and hang on. Nothing more fun than watching the fish explode on the surface!! Nothing better after a stressful day of work than to get out on the lake with a cold one and catch some fish!!
