I had a pond dug last summer in the Hill Country of Texas. A local contractor with experience in pond construction did the project. He claims to have hit rock in one section. Now my pond does not appear to be holding water.

Two questions:
1) Is there a sure way to detect the leak?
2) I have read about bringing in clay vs benonite as a liner? Which is better?

Thanks for your advice

Don't waste your time and $$$ with bentonite. Have the clay hauled in. Check out my thread under building a dam( new pond seepage) You don't wanna go through this.

Thanks. Getting a bid to haul in the clay. How deep should it be?

I'll let the experts chime in on this one. They have helped me out a lot.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with less than 18" of clay packed with a sheepsfoot roller in 6" lifts, and I'd feel much better with 24" of clay depth packed the same way.
