Just seeing what you guys thought of this clay... I am having the last contractor come out this week to take a look. He sometimes digs ponds for the dirt (no cost to me), so that will help with all of the other projects I wanna get done with it.

Looks like clay to me! It's hard to tell from a picture. Moisture content, etc. is hard to tell.

Make a ball and throw it against the side of a vehicle. If it sticks, dig the pond.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Hey Duane Welcome aboard neighbor.
Just letting you know I sent you the names of a couple of contractors in a PM. Good luck. Your in the right spot. looks like pretty good clay from the picture. But I would sure go the extra mile in regards to the sink hole. Lots of sink holes in Harrison Co. But lots of ponds too and clay.

Thanks R&R! It was pretty wet and sticky. It packed together very nicely too it seemed. My uncle had a pond dug about a 1/4 mile down the street and his clay looked nothing like this. It was full of small rocks (of which I never found a single rock while using the auger on my property) and bright red clay. I actually dug down a pretty good hole and found the "sinkhole". Well what I actually found was a ledge of rock that seems to have stuff seeping by it. Hopefully with the bigger equipment perched a little further away we can really get an idea of whats going on.
Thanks again for everything guys! BTW, I read the entire Perfect Pond...Want One in one night. Pretty solid read!

Make sure you do a soil column test to see how far that clay go down to. You may have good clay at the top, or even 5ft down, but at the depth you want, it may be loose sand. Just make sure to always do a soil column test before investing in a huge amount for digging.
