I have a 3 acre tank that is about 25 yrs. old We use this tank for everything except drinking water. ( my wife refuses ) this is the first spring that we have used the water. everything was good all last summer and winter. but just within the last two weeks the water has stunk so horribly that you can barely take a shower. I can see no signs of the blue-green algea that I have read about on this website and there is no moss in the tank, which seems odd the only thing growing is around the water line . Im not sure what its called but it has leaves and floats along the top , connected to a root, but no moss at all. can anyone help me before my wife wants to move to town??

What color cast does the overall pond or water have and what is the smell like or similar to?

The water is pretty clear , at the bank you can see the bottom of the tank up to a ft.- 16 inches deep. the color is hard to explain. we have 5 tanks on the place, and this one looks just like all of the others . just the normal greenish color that you would expect. thanks .

Again,, 1. What type of odor does the water have? Since I cannot smell it, as best you can describe "has stunk so horribly".
2. Is the smell worse in the hot water vs cold water? Does the water at the pond smell the same way as in the house?.
3. And describe the water intake structure and its location in the pond(depth & placement in relation to the shoreline or middle of pond).
The better your descriptions to me the better my answers can be. NOTE: My definition of 'pretty clear' is being able to see a white coffee cup suspended on a cord in the water 4 ft deep. Seeing it 16" deep is pretty cloudy or murky.

Bill, sorry it took so long to reply, my computer crashed. I have the problem solved. It turned out to be caused by the water heater, once I drained and flushed it everything was good again. wish I had thought of that first. thanks for your help.
