Is this a good thing? It is not bad just unsightly and the water appears to have a stagnant look. The last sechi disk reading was about 18 inches. I have not fertilized since it appeared but I have sprayed for FA with Cutrine Plus several weeks ago. The FA is not bad and seems to be dying.

I have read a lot of the threads for algae blooms....but to be honest I'm very confused at this point!

My thoughts are if you have young hatch of minnows they would need the bloom for food. This I have gathered from all the reading I have done. My pond seems to go through a few different blooms over the year and we are getting another right now. I let it get to the 18" like you then drop in the blue dye to limit the light. This is all I do and let nature continue on her way.

Cheers Don.

Plankton is the base of the food chain. Take it out and you will have no fish recruitment over time. That is unless you feed pellets starting with fry powder to yoy hatchlings which is highly unlikely. Like all things pond - it depends. Don't be confused. State your goals and we will get this right. What area of the state are you in ?

I'm in NE MS just outside of Columbus. I think the clarity is ok. I need to get rid of the scummy stagnant film on top. The pond looks a lot like the post from several days ago called "Looks like someone Spilled Paint in my Pond".

Thanks for all the help!!
