My grandfather and I are looking for an aeration system for our small pond. It is a 1/2 acre, rectangle sized pond. its located deep in east texas. The nearest electricity source is about 500 yards away but unfortunetly lots of woods and iron ore stand in the way. We started to look at windmill systems, but we are a little confused on what we should get, best products, and etc..... any help would be much appreciated

No expert on windmill aeration but did my homework before I seleceted a manufacture. Depending on depth I think a 20' tower with one air station would suffice for you. Is the pond 8 foot average? If not might have to go to 2 air stones. Outdoor Water Solutions has a godo website with useful information. Here is the system http://www.outdoorwatersolutions.com/product.aspx?product=38We sell a little under the suggested retail. Let us know if you have further questions.

yeah i just contacted george at Outdoor water solutions and he was very helpful. gave us alot of info and also suggested the 20ft. yes the pond averages 8-12 ft deep. My grandfather is convinced that the 12ft will be sufficient, but i disagree. i dont think its gonna get enough wind down in the bottoms around all those trees. His biggest worry about going bigger than the 12ft is the maintance and reaching the hub at 20 ft. anybody run into this problem or is their an easy soltuion? Can the 20ft windmill support a ladder for maintance?

You want to make sure to get as much water movement as possible. The efficeincy goes up quite a bit with the 20 footer. Anyone?? advice on 20 footer I need to know this info as well.

well from what i was told is that regardless of the height, with 5-7 mph wind, you'll get 3.0 to 3.5 CFM's from the outdoor water system. the only difference in highth brings higher wind mph. so has anyone done maintenance on a 20 footer? is it easy with a ladder. what about the 16 footer? is it easily reachable and safe with a ladder leaning against it?

Have changed several diaphrams on 20 ft Koenders including one of my own. The 20 ft does not seem to be a problem with either climbing them or using a ladder.I also think you will pick up a lot more wind at 20 ft vs anything under that height.Buy one from Greg and perhaps he'll get you a higher performing diffuser for it as I think that is an over looked area of all windmill manufacturers.

Look at a Beckermill also. My Koender is a 2002 model and is used strictly for winter aeration in a small 4/10 acre pond. I think Koender / Superior Mills have made some changes since then in tower design and compressors.Bill Cody would be current on Koender.

Koenders and Superior Mills are very similar. Outdoor Water Solutions and Superior Mills copied Koenders original design. Seriously look into and research a Beckermill- http://www.beckermills.com/contact.asp?jl= . Becker improved the design and removed the flaws and weak parts for his own version (4 legs). IMO they are made better (all USA), more heavy duty and with more improvements that the others.
