Hey all, I'm new but looking to learn about this and get advice. I'm looking at a peice of property that has a spring fed pond about a 1/4 acre in a mountainous, but not super high elevation area. I would like to make a trout pond. My only concern is even though it holds water good, it may not be enough water flowing in to keep trout year round. That is my goal. If that is the case, would you be able to supplement more ground water w a well pump so trout could live? I don't want to buy the land if the pond wouldn't work, so what are the chances of success in this situation? Any advice appreciated and thanks in advance.

Are you thinking about well water because the pond may dry up?
I don't think you need flowing water to keep the trout alive. You should be more concerned about having enough dissolved oxygen in the water and the water temps. You can add aeration for the oxygen, and temps would be based on your location. In my pond the trout may last into June, but never make it thru a yearly cycle.
Yes, there are those that use well water to top off their ponds in dry spells. Might be better off looking into fixing the leak for a long term fix.
Welcome to PB, jump right in with more questions.
