I've got a Koenders Windmill on my small pond. Last year I bought an antifreeze injector to keep the airline from freezing, and it worked great.

My issue is that I couldn't find anything but one pint bottles of rubbing alcohol for the tank. Have any of you found a source for larger quantities of rubbing alcohol, perhaps a half gallon or gallon? I'd think it might save a little money, and would certainly be easier to fill.

Thanks.

Your pharmacist may be able to order you a large quantity. I wasn't aware alcohol was so expensive but I haven't bought any in a while. I do know lacquer thinner that I use a lot of in my fish painting has gone up considerably.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

HA...I read the title of this article and immediately clicked on it - as I attempted to get some Alcohol on an Airline yesterday until I realized they wanted 7 bucks for a Bud Light on the leg from Chicago to St Louis!!

Then I realized - wrong alcohol and wrong airline.

I was thinking the same thing after cruising in the Gulfstream II yesterday. Good thing the Pilots had the cooler already stocked. wink

As far as getting air line antifreeze in bulk you could probably check and see if they have any at a local Class 8 truck shop / truck stop or dealer .

Go to a local heating and cooling company that installs geothermal heat pumps. They will have 190 proof alcohol in very large containers. They may or may not be able to sell it to you. They may insist on installing it themselves.

An alternate thought is, if it is legal where you live, to just go to a local liquor store and get a jug of "Everclear." In our area it can be sold at 190 proof (95% alcohol). In some areas it has to be watered down for them to sell it, or it is just banned completely.

The last alternative is -- do you have any friends who make their own liquor? If so, they might be willing to give you some of the head -- first liquor steamed off the mash that may still have some fusel oils

In any case, the vapors from these are explosive and dangerous if used in a closed space. I don't recommend sampling any of them to see if they are good as anti-freeze or for absorbing water.

I just got off the phone after calling a local business that sells racing fuel. They sell it for less than $4 per gallon if you bring your own container. That's a lot better than the $2.49 per quart at a local pharmacy, and will be a lot faster to fill the tank.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, and especially to Frozengator. I hadn't thought about racing alcohol. Now with the money I save on the antifreeze system, I can afford to buy another drink or two the next time I'm on an airline! Sadly, it won't be good Moonshine, and unfortunately it won't be on a Gulfstream II!!!
