You might want to read the threads on Supercooling and Winter Aeration in the
Archive Aeration Primer. Those two links are right about smack dab in the middle of the archive thread, in one post I made in the middle of oodles of good info from Condello, et. al.
Personally, I move the airstone for my windmill to shallow (3' ?) water when the pond temp is about 45 degrees (it is virtually the same temp top to bottom at this point). If I had (make that
when I have) electric aeration, I would cut way, way back on aeration hours at that same time - maybe none at all until I needed a couple of hours a day to clear a hole in the ice (January/February, here).
