I am feed-training some Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass and a few Spotted x Largemouth. Seeing some cool stuff that might be of interest to some.

I'm interested, especially now that I have feed trained bass myself.

Fish in top group are doing something really bad. They are extras so not on top of them like we should be. Students are being tasked with observing to see what is going on. If you have experience raising lots of chicks in small pens you can sometimes see similar and it is also bad there as well.

Fish in lower image are in a polarized school that has an edge. I like to present the feed at the edge they are facing towards.

A couple of my bass have become "feed trained". When I feed the BG they will follow and attack the BG school that is actively feeding in a frenzied wad.

Same here.
They love a distracted school of BG.

Half acre 30 year old farm pond, Mebane NC. Aeration & feeder.
LMB, CC, SC, BG, HBC, two no account welfare carp and nine seasonal Tilapia that all the other fish are terrified of.

What is the bad thing? Piling up on top of each other?

Top group is lumpy, with one area crowded and the rest not. Bottom group is spread out pretty evenly.

As a teacher, one thing I know for sure is this: Some benefit from schooling more than others!

Top group has a group of fish forming a clump as they attempt to hide their heads. They are also getting darker. Light colored individuals outside the clump are attacking them or threatening to do so. Other differences also at play, but can not seen from above or in still photographs. I will be doing a hard grading by length and condition to fix problem. Many of the aggressors are outright cannibals and will be culled.

Thank you for educating us! I didn't realize the significance of the clump, nor even notice the color differences. Fish are fascinating.

I don't think I have ever seen a LMB or BG that was not cannibalistic in a pond situation.
