i assume albinos have a giant target on their backs for predation, but i would think at 10-12 inches they would have been ok. they were 10-12 inches when you put them in? and how long ago was that?

I put them in about 2 months ago. And they were 10-12in. Well that's what the fish company said. We all know how that goes though.
Does the sunlight hurt them?

Well you got me thinking about the depth of my pond, so I went out in a paddle boat this weekend and tested it out. Its 14ft deep to 10ft throughout most of the pond. The person we bought the property from I guess stretched the truth a little.

I have yet to measure the depth of a pond and have it be deeper than what the owner said it would be. Even ponds that were dug as recently as a year ago.

Yes and many are much shallower. However up north deeper is better to avoid ice over and winter kill situations. 14 feet should do.

It also depends on whether your pond will hold water or if it's a ground water pond. I have seen groundwater ponds up here drop 8' from Spring to late winter before the next Spring melt. Even a 14' deep pond doesn't leave much water for fish when it drops 8'.
