It might be tough to find a non rocky area that wouldn't leak. The plausibility of a concrete dam might be checkbook dependent.
Check with others in the area, including the NRCS, to see if others in the area have tried it.
Pretty place. Where is it?
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I wouldn't waste my money if you are talking about a dry stream bed. That area is known for all it's live water springs. The building of a small concrete dam in stream beds is common place in that area but they are built on constant flowing streams that flow enough to over come the leakage rate. Typically there is little or no top soil before you hit almost solid limestone. Your place is in most beautiful region of the great Lone Star State.

Welcome to the forum! Wow, the first stages of planning your pond project - blank canvas, exciting time for sure. If the NRCS isn't helpful, I encourage you to contact Mike Otto - an owner of Pond Boss and a premier pond builder, in Texas. If you are not close geographically, he can suggest a trusted contractor to walk the property with you and discuss project feasibility. Man, I smell an Smallmouth fishery coming along!

Well we're trying to do some serious ceder clearing without destroying too much deer habitat so i guess I will see if that will promote any of the springs in the area to start running again. I know they're there they just dry up soon after a good rain because of the dad-gum ceder. I'll probably put off this project until other property improvements have been completed sadly.
