Okay guys, I am back after a long winter. Got most of my one acre pond dug last fall. Still have about 1/8 yet to dig but it is the shallow part so shouldn't take too much longer. Biggest problem is getting rid of the sand that is coming out.

Rainman brought me FH's, Bluegills from Dr. Bruce and redears last fall. They seem to be doing well so far. I want to put in LM bass and some hybrid stripers. My question is, how many LM and how many stripers. I think I need to go large numbers of the predators to keep the gill population down so the big ones will get bigger. Also wonder how big should the predators be, assuming I can get any size I want. Thanks for the help.

John, will the FEL still be there to pull me out? smile

I'll be by you in a couple weeks and whatever you and the stocking experts suggest, I'll gladly bring to you. I'm in Birmingham right now with a load of tilapia and RES going to TN, AR, OK, KS and further north...lol I'll be stocking Yolkies new pond around 3-4am! I don't know why he doesn't want me to call him when I get there?!?!

John, the goals for your pond dictate stocking numbers and the size they are. Do you want bigger sunfish or bigger bass or balance... How big were the RES and BG that you stocked last fall?

So both of you will be in the same place at the same time?

Where did you say this is going to take place?

I'm not asking because I'm plotting and devious plan or anything, I'm just curious.

Yea that's the ticket.

John,

If you go heavy, you may be sorry down the road. I stocked my 2 acre Indiana pond with 30 lbs. FHM, 2000 BG and 500 RES in Sept. 2006. Then in Sept. 2007 I added 100 8" LMB, I was going to stock 250 but only 100 was available at the time. Today I have excellent growth in those LMB (largest caught is 17" 2.6 lbs). They have spawned every year and I have more than I need. In fact I have started to do some culling. I catch multiple LMB everytime I fish and in all locations of the pond. Save the money and be patient. You'll be glad you did.

By the way, I added 23 9" HSB last summer. I'll monitor their growth and will add just a handful every year or two to maintain optimum growth and population, also want to minimize the competition with the LMB. I also toy around with tilapia. What town are you near John?
