Thursday we became the proud owners of the Lazy W. The Lazy W pond is around an acre and I fished it Thursday afternoon and Friday morning for a few minutes. I have caught 5 BG so far. Three were really nice. As I was pulling one of them out a nice bass around a couple of pounds came after him. The pond is really clear and has lots of underwater vegetation. I wiggled a small spinner bait around and 5 or 6 really small bass came out to challenge it. Fed some pellets and a good number of CC came to chow. So, all that being said, not really sure yet what I have my hands on but it looks like a fun project. Pond has a nice pier going out into it. We will also keep the place with Zephyr Pond on it. We will be renaming Zephyr the Lazy B shortly.

Ewest and others, Zephyr Pond has received almost 40 inches since the beginning of the year. Most of the rains came at 4 inches plus at a time. It has been running around the dam for a couple of months. The water is fairly clear and man do I have the vegetation. Haven't seen the GC so I guess they are busy eating, but they are loosing the battle. All in all pond looks great and thanks for asking and thanks everyone for the kind comments. We are excited about the future. I have not had much luck catching any bass at all, but the ones I have caught are still in the 8 to 11 inch catagory. I've seen some new fingerlings, so don't think I having much luck with bass. We are headed to Japan next week and are scheduled to go squid fishing. I'll take picts if I catch one of the darn things.

The guy in the picture is the guy I bought it from. He probably didn't even catch that bass there.

Congrats, Heybud.

You're doing really well, and we want all the information you can get us on the new water body.

We just returned from the first week at the Lazy W. We discovered the pond is fed by a beautiful little stream that comes from 3 or 4 different springs. The pond is very clear and water is cool. I need to get the temperature next time. I caught 6 or 7 bass, most in the 4 to five pound range and a couple in the 2 pound range. I caught around 10 or so BG most in the 6 to seven inch catagory and couple in the 3 ot 5 inch range. We have a residednt doe and two babies. Wild turkey are close cause we can hear them gobbling. We had a resident rattlesnake but I dispathched him with my 9mm. We have an armadillo that lives under the house. I might not do anything to the pond for a while cause it works for me. I guess doing nothing is a pond management tool. Life is good at the Lazy W. Headed to Japan Friday will report back later.

How true. A little hard for people like me to understand, but very true.

Dr. Dave says "Do Nothing" is a Pond Management option his students MUST include in all their answers.

Ah, "Doing nothing" my mantra.
Fortunately, I live with someone who is like Bruce, in at least one respect, "Can't sit still" her motto.

"Do nothing" is about like "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'm not very good at that.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

The fishing is great in this pond so far. The pond is probably too clear and there is too much vegetation, but it seems to be working. If a guy was gonna start doing something instead of nothing, what would be the first step?

Do a water quality test. Fill a new baby bottle with the pond water and send it to A & M for evaluation.

Identify the vegetation.

Evaluate the forage base. What species are represented?

Look at the total fish population spread. Are all sizes and year classes represented?

Keep a log.
