No fishing gear for the wife and I, but we bought the kids there own rod and reel fishing kits. It was really fun to see the exitement in the 6 year old when he opened his "own" tackle box!!! That realy got him going. hahaha
The small pond should be good to start fishing it in the spring, but he big one will be another year or two until it's ready to catch anything.
Santa did bless us with over 2 inches of rain!!!

I use the weed eater for grass . The blade is for thick brush and small trees. Plus the exercise is good. I could put the steel wheel blade on the weed eater but the kaiser/sling blade is easier. It is to steep for the tractor. Do they have tractors up there Ric.

heybud the only yoyo I'm familiar with was one we used to 'walk the dog' with when we were kids. ewest, yea we got trakters, indoor plummin & water to boot. Lots of folks around these parts has took to using goats for weed eaters. ps: I'm with you on the kaiser blade although we just called it a sling. I actually prefer it to a weed eater away from the house. Don't have to tote gas.

We need a thread to list all the various local names of idiot sticks (sticks with a blade on one end and an idiot on the other). The ones I use most are a "brush axe" and a "shovel".

I don't have a translation, but when I first moved here almost all of my neighbors, both men and women, carried one of these. It was sort of a macho thing to have the sharpest one. I inserted a size 10 dress shoe in the picture to give a frame of reference. It is a very effective tool and as Ric says cheap to operate. And in reference to Theo's comment. I drilled a hole in the sharp part and riveted it to the dull part, cause mine kept flying off of the handle.

I think I must have been extra nice. I got a pair of electric socks. I can be super warm hunting and my feet still freeze. We will see how they workout. Our best gift of course was spending the first Christmas with our litle one, he had a great time, and of course Santa got him some camo.

I got a Kawasaki! Yea!!!
OK, it was only a Kawasaki 21v drill. But it did come in that cool Ninja green color, and has an extra battery.
Hey Rad, I've seen that same type of knife in Vietnam. The "Montagnards" often carried them.

Ok Theo, that's also what I know as a bush ax. Here's a link to what I always called a sling: http://www.acehardware.com/sm-ace-weed-cutter-we-20ace--pi-1272540.html

It's called a briar hook in South Louisiana. Having operated such a machine on occasion, I know it's not a toy.

Ric I call what you linked a sling blade. What I posted a kaiser blade , a yo-yo a kids toy and I never heard of a brush axe. It does work real well on hooking briars.

That's what I use a brush axe for - rose bush & berry briars, annual weeds, and the occasional small tree.

I slung grass for the city(town) in '63 for $.80 an hour. Of course, I had to walk up hill 5 miles to and from work.
