i like to raise channle cats i am planning to ad to my pond twice the size it is now when the new hole is dug should i worry about spawning locations while its still dry also i have a problem with the mud cats over populating what can i do to slow them down my first pond took about 4 years to clear up (red clay) any suggestions on clear water from the start anything i should do to the pond in desighn or whatever to help with the anything at all

How big is the lake you are building? How deep? What is the water shed??

8 to 12 feet deep can get water from natrual drain also i have a 2" well with 5hp electric motor on a jager
Increasing size from 1/4 to 1/2 acre.

Don't worry about your catfish spawning. It's more trouble than what it's worth.
Buy channel catfish, whatever size you want, feed them, harvest them, then stock more. Make it a "put and take" fishery.
If channel catfish successfully spawn, you will have more fish than you know what to do with, and it will become a management problem at some point.
Channel catfish are so inexpensive, it makes sense to buy and stock, then do it again.
For example, you should be able to buy 100 catfish fingerlings for $40-80.00, depending on their size. You can even buy fish big enough to catch for a couple bucks a pound.

paulcooter, I sure agree with Bob. One thing I would like to know is exactly what species you are talking about. Are you talking about black, yellow or brown bullheads? They had to come from some place. What is the closest source of these fish? The subject of "where did these fish come from?" has been covered extensively. Where do you think these bullheads came from?
