I have been meaning to ask this question for sometime but just now round to it.....20 acre pond in Ellis Cty. At times during the day and evening our pond almost looks like rain is falling on it. At first I thought it was shad but the closer I looked it is air bubbles that have released and come to the top and "pop" leaving what almost looks like a light rain shower. Do others have the same situation? I have got to believe it is good almost like it is self-aerating. Oh yeah, it is mostly in the deeper parts that we see this. Not so much in the shallows.......any thoughts?

Interesting. I see this in our spring fed ponds. With the mist you can get damp just standing around. Btw I know the difference between this and fog or humidity. Are you sure it is O2 and not CO2 or CH4 (methane). I don't know if all gases are good for aeration. Any guesses on that from the aeration experts.

Don:

Can you relate any areas where the gas bubbles seem more concentrated to pond depth or vegetation? I'm thinking gas produced in shallower areas with lots of plants is more likely to be good (O2) than bad (CH4, CO2, or even H2S).

We had a drinking tank "pond" that did this as a kid, but we knew what it was, an old qas well that didn't get plugged good in the old days. bubbled up thru the pond for years.

It seems like the greater concentration is in the deeper water (6' or deeper) although it goes on to some degree everywhere. These are really small bubbles. I mean hard to see at all. A big one would be the size of a pencil eraser and an average size would be roughly 1/8" in diameter. I wish one of you "pondmeisters" was close enough to come by and take a look. I think you would find it interesting.......If your ever near Waxahachie or Midlothian TX please give me a call. My personal e-mail is donmorgan@partyclubofamerica.com
