Welcome to Pond Boss, Funky!

If it's just a single fish swimming sideways, I would not worry about it, as it may just be old age/end of life.

Is it a larger bluegill (meaning old age/end of life) or smaller?

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I agree with Sunil, no worries if it is just one. Could be old age, an eye infection, a damaged fin, or he got hit hard by a LMB but escaped. Probably dozens of other possible reasons.

Do you have any large predator fish in the pond? Usually a forage fish that is injured or swimming poorly draws a lot of attention from the hungry lions.

Funky,

Do you also fish for the BG?

Lots of people on the forum have a problem with BG overpopulating without enough LMB as the top predator. Are your CC keeping your pond in a decent balance?

Also, are the CC reproducing in your pond, or are you just raising the original catfish that you stocked?

Congrats on your 31" CC, sounds like a good "eatin' size" to me!

I mainly fish for BG, some CC, the size of the pond keeps my LMB small in numbers.
The last LMB I got was 18". But they do not really bite as they have so much to eat.

Are the CC controlling the small BG for you and allowing for the development of a good population of large BG?

That sounds like a fun pond! I hope your half-acre pond is producing some good table fare.

I think this size CC can control anything to a point.

Good thing you have a trailer hitch installed on your ATV. Any bigger catfish that are removed are going to have to be hauled on a trailer!

P.S. Did everyone see that a 15 y.o. girl just caught a 101# blue cat in Ohio. Hopefully she didn't put it in one of Theo's ponds.

Not to hijack but my point is this cat-about the same size you mentioned-will eat about anything it wants. 6-9" BG are not out of reach...LMB up to 12-13" are a good meal. Those 12" size LMB are controlling excess BG, the ones that make it through are the ones that will achieve great sizes. Be mindful of the size and number of CC in the pond-especially at 1/3 acre.
